The Microbiology Lab

JAD microbiology laboratory section provides a full range of diagnostic services for the detection and monitoring of bacterial and fungal infections.
Involvement in hospital infection control such as academic rounds, infection control training and antibiotic experiments are an enormous portion of our services.

Microbiology Tests

A major contribution of microbiology has been learning the role of microbes in disease. It is now known that bacteria cause diseases such as plague, tuberculosis, and anthrax; protozoans cause diseases such as malaria, sleeping sickness, and toxoplasmosis; fungi cause diseases such as ringworm, candidiasis, and histoplasmosis; and viruses cause diseases such as influenza and yellow fever.

Host-parasite relationships have been worked out, such as understanding that Plasmodium (cause of malaria) utilizes Anopheles mosquitoes in transmission; some Trypanosoma species (cause of African trypanosomiasis, or sleeping sickness, and Chagas disease, or South American trypanosomiasis) utilize the tsetse fly or conenose bugs; and Leishmania (cause of lieshmania) is carried by sand flies. Because of these findings, microbiologists have been able to develop antibiotics and vaccines, and the public has become aware of the importance of hygiene and means to avoid insect vectors (repellents, mosquito nets, etc.).

Haematology

Our laboratory provides consistent quality results in all aspects of routine and specialized haematology, flow cytometry and bone marrow assessment. Estimation of Full Blood Count, ESR, Reticulocyte counts, Detection of Haemo-parasites Sickle Cell test, HB-electrophoresis, Ferrritin, R.A Latex and ASO, Platelet Counts, Bleeding and Easy Brusability profile, ABO and Rh Blood group, Coomb’s test, among others.

Hematology Tests

They include; tests on blood, blood proteins, blood producing organs.
These tests can evaluate variety of blood conditions including infections, anaemia, inflammation, haemophilia, blood cloting disorders, leukemia & the body’s response to chemotherapy treatment.

Clinical Chemistry Tests

These tests measure concentrations or activities of substances in body fluids.
These tests may use different kinds of body fluids such as; Whole blood, plasma, serum, urine & CSF.

These tests include among others;
HbA1C, Electrolytes/Urea, Liver function tests, Cardiac Enzymes, Renal function tests, Lipids Blood Sugar, G.T.T. Pancreatic Function tests, Serum Protien-total, Albumin and Globulin.

Infectious Diseases like;
Hepatitis, HIV, Widal (Typhoid), Brucellosis, Toxoplasmosis. Among others

STD
Syphilis, Vaginitis, Urethratis, HIV, Gonorrhea, Chlamydia trachomatis, Gonococco infections.

IMMUNOCHEMISTRY

These test include;
Thyroid Profile, Tumor Markers, Reproduction/Fertility.

IHC IMMUNOHISTOCHEMISTRY with Ventana Benchmark Gx
Fully automated immune pathology, IHC . That’s to say

  • Faster Turnaround time.
  • Increased work flow
  • Reduction of re-staining by 30%
  • No need for dilute the antibodies
  • Clear diagnostics and prognostics
  • High quality tissue Staining (Homogenous)
  • Individual slide staining
  • Flexibility to do several antibodies at the same time.

IMUNOLOGY

Western blot, Immune-fluorescence tests, and solid phase immunoassays are offered for most generalized and organ specific autoimmune conditions. The immunology laboratory also provides an essential service for the monitoring of biologicals like adalimumab, vedolizumab, and infliximab used for the treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases and rheumatological conditions. Screening for antibody and complement primary immune deficiency defects is also available.

ALLERGY

The allergy testing done at Jad Laboratories, includes skin prick testing, pooled screening IgE tests for food and aero-allergens and a full range of specific IgE tests to assist in the diagnosis of allergic conditions.

Molecular element testing for rigorousness testing is offered also as is patch testing at specific sites to test for sensitization to definite metals and cosmetic products including hair dyes and nail products

Mycobacteriology TB

Our tuberculosis laboratory section provides a range of diagnostic services used exclusively for the detection and monitoring of TB, through our TB Testing services.

The installation of our GeneXpert (R) technology, endorsed by the World Health Organization, enables Jad Laboratories to provide consistent quality results and a rapid diagnosis of TB.

VIROLOGY

We provide a full range of diagnostic services for the detection and monitoring of viral illnesses. Available test methods include molecular assays, serology and cell culture for a broad spectrum of viral infections

General body check-up/Pre-Employment check-up

A medical examination for people who are not feeling sick or are already sick but the disease is not yet showing serious symptoms.

Immunal Diagnostic Tests like ELISA & ELFA

Immunodiagnostics uses antibodies to determine the presence or absence of specific biomarkers in a sample.

Histology

JAD histology laboratory section offers a diagnostic service to both the private and public sectors

Our great team of anatomical pathologists, technologists and technicians, with enormous extents of experience offers a diagnostic and consultative service on a number of tissue samples including biopsies and resection specimens.

The diagnostic services are rendered on immense range of disease processes including infectious diseases, inflammatory skin conditions, lung and renal disorders as well as cancers.

Routine histology is offered as well as intraoperative consultation in specialised cases.

Ancillary techniques such as immunohistochemistry, In situ hybridization and molecular techniques form part of the tools applied in the improving diagnostic accuracy

Cytology

Our cytology laboratory section analyses both gynaecological and non-gynaecological cytology. Cytology is used to determine the nature of lesions and often to look for infections. It is mainly a screening tool to triage patients’ management.

Our non-gynae service looks at fluids such as urines, pleural and ascitic fluids, breast fluids and CSF’s, and fine needle aspirations (FNA’s). The FNA’s are submitted by referring doctors, or obtained with us on site in the radiology departments, in theatre, (Rapid on site evaluation- ROSE), in the ward (for inpatients only) or done by us on palpable lesions in our clinic.

Please note that all procedures where we will be present, require appointments to be booked at least 24 hours in advance. Our samples can often be sent for molecular analysis, immunochemistry, cultures or other further testing if required. If you are submitting a nongynae sample, please either submit spray fixed slides, or fluids in a green top, or urine bottle with saline; NOT a LBC bottle.

We look at both conventional slides and Liquid based cytology(LBC) in our gynae screening service. We currently use the Surepath system for our LBC, which requires the brush to be submitted in the bottle.

Please ensure to label samples and provide as much information as possible

Other Tests Include; –

Other tests offered include; HPLC analysis for a number of endocrine tests including serotonin and catecholamines and drugs of abuse testing. Toxicology testing of blood and urine samples to enable biological monitoring in the workplace
